Suspect in custody after man found dead inside Virginia Beach home; police investigating as homicide

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - A suspect has been arrested after a man was found dead inside a home in the 600 block of Redkirk LaneWednesday night.

Around 7:49 p.m., dispatchers received a call about a suspicious death in the area. When officers arrived on scene, they found the man dead inside the home.

Thursday night, police identified the victim as 58-year-old Daoud Bilal of Virginia Beach.

During the preliminary investigation​, detectives said they found evidence that led them to identifying a potential suspect. Detectives obtained and served a search warrant in Norfolk, which led to more evidence being recovered and the suspect being taken into custody Thursday night.

Authorities announced 45-year-old Matthew Gene Hoaglund of Norfolk was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. He is being held in the Virginia Beach City Jail.

This case is still under active investigation.
