CHESAPEAKE, Va. - The Virginia State Police is investigating after a 35-year-old man was killed in a crash early Friday morning.

According to police, the call came in at 1:44 a.m. for the crash. Police responded to I-64 E, east of Great Bridge Boulevard, where they learned that a driver went off the roadway to the right, down an embankment and struck a tree.

The vehicle's driver was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, and police said speed does not appear to be a contributing factor.

Troopers have been attempting to locate the victim's next of kin, and will identify him at that time.

The incident remains under investigation.
