HAMPTON, Va. - Police arrested a Newport News man in connection with a deadly Friday morning shooting.

Officers responded to the 1600 block of W. Pembroke Avenue around 2:28 a.m. after a reported shooting in the area.

A man, identified as 32-year-old Michael Christen Davis, was found shot to death at the Pembroke Pines Apartments when police arrived on scene.

Tyshawn Joseph DeShields, 30, was arrested in connection with this homicide investigation and charged with murder, two counts of use of a firearm, burglary while armed and discharging a firearm within a dwelling. He is currently being held at the Hampton City Jail.

One neighbor told News 3 police removed a bullet from his building. It was only an inch away from missing the glass window - a frightening reminder that bullets have no names.

Many residents had no idea what was going on before police showed up and carried away a bag full of evidence.

Investigators were in and out of an apartment while detectives questioned possible witnesses who could lead them to a suspect.

Neighbors were reluctant to talk about this violent crime, but they say it's not the first shooting to hit close to home.

There are no further details to release at this time.

Anyone who has information about this shooting is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP (1-888-562-5887).
