Man rescued after kayak capsizes in Suffolk

SUFFOLK, Va. - Two Suffolk Police assigned to Marine Patrol rescued a kayaker in distress early Saturday afternoon.

Officials received a drowning call at 12:21 p.m., from an individual who says a kayaker capsized and was in distress in the water off Sleepy Hole Park, located in the 4600 block of Sleepy Hole Road.

Police say the kayaker was located approximately 250 yards from shore clearly in distress and without a personal flotation device.

Marine One approached the man and positioned their craft so that the officers could rescue the kayaker.

Officials say he was not injured and refused medical treatment.
