Man shot in back while working at BAE Systems Norfolk shipyard, police investigating

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk Detectives are investigating a shooting that left an employee injured at BAE Systems late Saturday evening.

According to officials, around 11:20 p.m., police responded to 750 W. Berkley Avenue for a reported gunshot victim.

One man was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries and police say he is expected to recover.

The shooting is being investigated as an isolated incident, and the investigation reveals that the man was working on the top deck of a ship when he was shot in the back.

The man told police that he heard what he believed to be fireworks coming from the City of Portsmouth at the time that he was injured.
