Motorcycle driver and passenger die in James City Co. crash

JAMES CITY Co., Va. - Officers are investigating a fatal crash that happened early Wednesday morning.

Around 7 a.m., officers responded to a crash involving a Kawasaki motorcycle and a Chevrolet work truck in the intersection of Olde Stage Road (Route 30) and Barnes Road. The truck was traveling west on Olde Stage Road and was making a left turn onto Barnes Road when it turned in front of the motorcycle, which was traveling east on Olde Stage Road. The motorcycle struck the rear of the work truck and caught on fire, according to police.

The driver of the motorcycle was identified as 22-year-old Tyler Scott Hybiak. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police said he was wearing a helmet. The passenger on the motorcycle, 20-year-old McKenzy Meade was reportedly not wearing a helmet. She was taken to VCU Medical Center where she died.

There were no other injuries.

The driver of the truck, 57-year-old Hernando Velasquez has been charged with failure to yield.

The crash remains under investigation.
