KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. - A motorcyclist was seriously injured after a crash involving a pickup truck on US 158 in Kill Devil Hills Friday afternoon.
Police say the crash between the Honda motorcycle and the Toyota pickup truck happened around 2:24 p.m. and closed all lanes of US 158 for about 35 minutes. The incident happened just south of 1st Street near the Publix.
After an investigation, police determined that the motorcycle rider, 31-year-old Nathan Jones of Holtwood, Pennsylvania, was driving unlawfully and was speeding between the two lanes of southbound traffic on US 158. Police say Jones was either unable to see or did not stop in time to avoid hitting the pickup truck from behind.
Jones was thrown from the bike and suffered serious injuries. He is receiving treatment at the Outer Banks Hospital.
Police say the driver of the Toyota was shaken but did not report any injuries at the scene.
