PORTSMOUTH, Va. - Staff members in the anesthesiology department at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth designed and built their own ventilator.

The team saw the need to have additional ventilators on hand if cases of coronavirus surged.

The ventilator is unique in that it's not a major company making it. Instead, it's made from parts that can be bought at stores and online. And the price point is just $250.

According to the medical center, the team took the idea from paper sketches to a prototype in just 28 days.
