Navy helicopter awaits return to Naval Station Norfolk after striking light pole on Tangier Island

TANGIER ISLAND, Va. - A Navy helicopter that struck a wooden light pole Saturday is currently waiting to return to Naval Station Norfolk for repairs.

Commander Jennifer Cragg, spokeswoman for Naval Air Force Atlantic says the helicopter from Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC-2) "unintentionally struck a wooden light pole while taxiing onto the ramp during a scheduled stop at the Tangier Island Airport."

Officials say no injuries or damage to civilian aircraft were reported. The damage to the helicopter and light pole is still being investigated.

Plans to get the helicopter back to Naval Station Norfolk so it can be repaired are currently underway.

The incident remains under investigation.
