Newport News barricade situation resolved without incident, man charged

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - A barricade situation was resolved and a man taken into custody after Newport News Police responded to a Cedar Avenue residence to serve a warrant Saturday morning.

According to police, officers responded to the 100 block of Cedar Avenue at 2:57 a.m. in connection with a domestic incident. The subject, identified as 35-year-old Nathan Anderson, barricaded himself inside the residence.

The Tactical Operations Unit responded to assist, and Anderson was taken into custody without incident at approximately 5:22 a.m.

Anderson is charged with one count each of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, discharging a firearm within city limits, reckless handling of a firearm and destruction of property.
