NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Newport News Police Department launched their new series Monday, designed to address current issues facing not only the NNPD but policing issues nationwide.

Every Monday, NNPD will post on its social media platforms a video featuring a subject matter expert. The following Thursday, the same person will conduct a Facebook live session to answer questions about the topic discussed that Monday.

In the first episode, which was posted Monday, Lt. J.P. Smith discusses the NNPD Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Team and its importance.

On Thursday, Lt. Smith will host a Facebook Live discussion to answer questions about the CISM Team.

“We look forward to this being a very productive way of keeping our community informed about the top issues in law enforcement today and how those issues affect the communities we serve,” said Chief of Police, Steve Drew. “We really hope you will take time to watch the videos and, just as important, join in on the subsequent conversations,” Drew added.
