Newport News Police search for 2 people after shots fired at officer responding to vehicle break-ins

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Newport News Police are searching for two people after shots were fired at officers responding to vehicle break-ins in the area.

Police say they responded to the area of Hanover Way and Jefferson Ave. for a report of two males breaking into vehicles in the area.

According to police, one was wearing a gray hoodie, light or gray jeans and a black backpack, and the second was wearing a black hoodie and red pants.

Officials say once officers arrived on scene, the suspects fled on foot and while fleeing turned, fired on the officer and continued to flee.

Police say there were no injuries and no officer's weapons were discharged during this incident.
