NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - A fire broke out on a Navy aircraft carrier under construction Monday.

Newport News Shipbuilding says emergency personnel responded to a 'minor fire' on the future USS John F. Kennedy (CVN 79).

The aircraft carrier was evacuated around 10:15 a.m. after a fire was reported on the ship. It was quickly extinguished.

The shipyard says the fire created a lot of smoke but no injuries were reported.

Newport News Shipbuilding is investigating the cause of the fire.
