Newport News shooting leaves 24-year-old man dead, police investigating

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - A 24-year-old man died after a shooting in the first block of Teardrop Lane Thursday night.

Police responded to the call for the shooting around 7:51 p.m.

When officers arrived on scene, they met with the man, who was suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital with injuries that police said were life-threatening.

The victim died at the hospital due to his injuries, police said. On Friday the victim was identified as 24-year-old Dequane Christopher Johnson.

There is no further information, and the investigation remains ongoing.
