NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - A Newport News mother was arrested Thursday in connection with the 2019 death of her daughter.

According to the Newport News Police Department, Jacqueline Wingo was charged with involuntary manslaughter and two counts of child abuse/neglect.

On September 12, 2019, Newport News Police responded to the 7-Eleven in the 12800 block of Jefferson Avenue after a 4-year-old girl was reported to be unresponsive and having trouble breathing. When officers arrived, they began CPR until medics arrived on scene, and the child was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Further investigation showed that the victim and her 5-year-old sister were both malnourished.

Wingo's trial dates have not been set, and this is a developing story.
