Norfolk Police: 13-year-old charged with second-degree murder in infant's death

NORFOLK, Va. – A 13-year-old was charged with second-degree murder after the December 2019 death of an infant in Norfolk was ruled a homicide.

On December 19, 2019 around 2:45 p.m., the Norfolk Police Department was called to the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters to investigate injuries found on a 9-month-old child. On December 30, 2019, the child died as a result of the injuries.

According to police, the infant’s death was initially investigated as undetermined until Norfolk's medical examiner ruled the death as a homicide.

The 13-year-old charged in the infant's death is a relative of the infant, police said. The 13-year-old is currently being held at the Norfolk Detention Home.
