NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk SPCA is holding a supply drive on Sunday.
The drive runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the shelter located at 916 Ballentine Blvd. They're collecting donations like pet food, treats, blankets and towels.
"The need here is great. We have an immediate need here," said Melissa Heard, the director of animal care and adoptions.
During the pandemic, the shelter has been busy. Services are up 16 percent and adoptions are up 20 percent, Heard said.
"I think because people are at home there's lots of time to get a new pet adjusted since people are working from home and a lot of businesses are closed," she said. "It's a great time to adopt."
That increase in demand has led to a need for more supplies.
"With more animals, we need more supplies to keep them happy when they're with us," Heard said.
