CHESAPEAKE, Va. - In honor of National Nurses Day and the beginning of Nurses Week – Chesapeake Regional Healthcare celebrated Wednesday, all while remaining safe and practicing social distancing.

Many nurses gathered in the parking lot at the Chesapeake Regional Healthcare campus, located at 736 Battlefield Boulevard around 8 a.m.

After remarks, the Florence Nightingale Pledge and the Lighting of the Lamp ceremony, the Chesapeake Police Department did a 'surround and call out' parade around the campus to honor nurses with lights and sirens.

Officials helped organize this event to shine some light and give recognition to the many hard working nurses who have been on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic since the outbreak.

Dr. Amber Egyud with Chesapeake Regional Healthcare said that, “It is a year where we’ve had the opportunity to really showcase all of our frontline heroes, and we’re so honored to be able to celebrate their accomplishments and commitment to our community during this pandemic.”

Organizers of the event say one of the best outcomes of this pandemic has been the community’s support for each other and for our healthcare workers.
