Passenger killed in Middlesex County crash

MIDDLESEX Co., Va. - State Police are investigating a two vehicle crash that killed someone Friday.

The incident happened around 7 p.m., Friday on Route 33 (General Puller Highway) west of Route 625 (Bobs Hold Road).

Police said a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado pulling a camper was attempting to turn out of a private driveway onto Route 33 when it was broadsided by a 2006 Ford F650 tow truck (pulling a vehicle).

The driver of the Silverado, 73-year-old Douglas Anthony Vito, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center. His passenger, 73-year-old Gladys Elise Vito, was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash and died at the scene.

The driver of the Ford, Clarence Daniel Jones, of Hartfield, Virginia, suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Walter Reed Hospital. His male passenger was not injured.

Police said Vito failed right of way and will not be charged.
