Pedestrian taken to hospital after being hit by car in Suffolk; driver cited for failure to yield

SUFFOLK, Va. – A pedestrian is in the hospital after she was hit by a car in the 200 block of N. Main Street Saturday afternoon.

Dispatchers received a call of a crash involving a pedestrian at 4:29 p.m. Suffolk Police and crews with Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded to the scene.

After Suffolk Fire & Rescue personnel gave the woman emergency medical assessment and treatment, she was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Her injuries are said to be non-life threatening.

Officials say the driver of the vehicle stayed on scene after the crash. The driver was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

Two lanes of N. Main Street were closed for about 25 minutes while police investigated, but they have since reopened.
