NORFOLK, Va. — One person was rescued from a vehicle that overturned outside a Norfolk restaurant Thursday afternoon.

The crash happened outside Karla's Beach House, which is located at 3248 E. Ocean View Avenue, just after 3:30 p.m.

Units with Norfolk Fire-Rescue had to cut the person from the car.

The driver sustained minor injuries, authorities say.

Employees at Karla's Beach House told News 3 reporter Nana-Séntuo Bonsu no customers were inside at the time of the crash. They were in between the lunch and dinner shift and were cleaning when they heard a loud bang.

According to one employee, the car hit a light pole and skidded into the intersection.

The City of Norfolk says the crash caused overhead wire and utility damages.

Police are currently investigating the crash. E. Ocean View Avenue is currently shut down from 15th Bay Street to 10th Bay Street while Dominion Energy makes repairs to a power pole.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area if possible and are encouraged to use Pleasant Avenue as an alternate route.
