Person sent to hospital after being shot multiple times following shooting on I-264 in Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH, Va. - The Virginia State Police, Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Chesapeake Field Office say they are currently investigating an interstate shooting that happened Friday morning.

Officials say the shooting took place around 12:47 a.m., on Interstate 264, eastbound, at Portsmouth Boulevard.

According to police reports, the victims were entering onto the interstate when they encountered another vehicle that began shooting at the victim's vehicle. The shooter fled the scene and police say the victims drove themselves to the WAWA gas station on Frederick Boulevard and contacted police.

The male driver was unharmed but the male passenger was shot multiple times and was taken to Norfolk Sentara Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, reports confirm.

Currently, police say there is no threat to the community and it appears to be an isolated incident.

There are no further details at this time as this is a developing story.
