Police pursuit ends in crash killing Hampton man

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, Va. - Virginia State Police are investigating a single vehicle crash that left a Hampton man dead and one man seriously injured as a result of a vehicle pursuit by police.

Around 5:21 a.m., State Police responded to the crash that resulted from a traffic pursuit, initiated by the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office.

According to preliminary investigations, a 2019 Porsche Cayenne was traveling at a high rate of speed in the northbound lanes of Interstate 85, when the driver lost control of the vehicle at the 37 mile marker.

The driver, 29-year-old Brian Alexander Thompson II from Hampton, ran off the road, ejecting Thompson. Police say he was not wearing a seat belt at the time.

The vehicle overturned into the tree line, killing Thompson, and seriously injuring the passenger, 35-year-old Marcus L. Jones.

Police say Jones was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.

Jones was airlifted to Virginia Commonwealth University Hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries.

The crash is under investigation by State Police.
