Driver charged with involuntary manslaughter, hit & run after Virginia Beach crash leaves one woman dead

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Virginia Beach Police are working a fatal crash in the area of Holland Road Friday night.

Police have identified the decedent as 47-year-old Lyree Dawn Vaughn.

The driver of the suspect vehicle, which police have identified as 26-year-old Kenneth Ka'Von Grant, was arrested and charged with DWI, Reckless Driving, Hit & Run causing personal injury and Involuntary Manslaughter. He is being held in the Virginia Beach City Jail.

On Friday, October 9, around 8:02 p.m., emergency officials received a call for two vehicle crash at the intersection of Holland Road and Governors Way.

Officers say they arrived on scene and located the crash. Reports say the suspect driver, Grant, fled the vehicle on foot and was apprehended a short distance later by officers.

Emergency Medical Services also responded to assist at the crash. Vaughn succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Grant was transported by Emergency Medical Services to a local hospital with minor injuries.

At this time speed and alcohol may be a contributing factors to this crash.

This case remains under investigation by members of the Fatal Crash Team (FACT). No other information is available at this time. This release will be updated as soon as information becomes available.

Northbound Holland Road at Chimney Hill to Windsor Oaks Road was shut down while police investigated.
