Portsmouth Police searches for man wanted for shooting teen

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Portsmouth Police are searching for a man wanted for shooting a teen Sunday evening.

Officials say a call came in around 8:15 p.m., regarding a male who was shot in the 1200 block of Duke Street.

A 17-year-old male was found shot in the leg, police say. The teen was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives say 32-year-old Monquell L. Wilkins is wanted as a suspect for shooting the teen.

Wilkins currently has active warrants on file for two counts of aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, thee counts of possession of firearm by convicted felon, reckless handling of a firearm, and tow counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling.

Police say Wilkins may be armed and dangerous.
