NORFOLK, Va. - A "small number" of Sailors assigned to USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) were diagnosed with coronavirus, according to Cmdr. Jennifer Cragg, Public Affairs Officer, Commander, Naval Air Force Atlantic.
The Department of Defense does not release the number of infected individuals at units, facilities or geographic area levels due to operational security.
Cragg said in an email that the crew members remain in isolation at their private residences in Virginia and will receive daily medical supportive care from Navy medical professionals until they have recovered.
There has been no impact to readiness, Cragg said.
The USS George H.W. Bush has been dry docked at Norfolk Naval Shipyard since February 2019 for a 28-month maintenance period.
Sailors aboard the USS George H.W. Bush are actively enforcing physical distancing, minimizing group gatherings, wearing PPE and cleaning extensively. Norfolk Naval Shipyard is also conducting temperature checks and screening all personnel with a medical symptoms questionnaire, and if required, referring Sailors with symptoms for medical evaluation.
