NORFOLK, Va. - Another locally-based Sailor has died from complications due to COVID-19.

The Navy announced Tuesday that on Feb. 22, a Sailor assigned to Assault Craft Unit (ACU) 4 based at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek has died. Officials say the Sailor tested positive for COVID-19 on Feb. 19 and was admitted to Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk on Feb. 20.

Other Sailors who were in contact with the Sailor have been notified and are taking the appropriate precautions.

This is the second local Sailor to die from complications of the virus this month. On Feb. 12, the Navy said a Sailor assigned to the Norfolk-based USS Wasp also died from COVID-19.

"We mourn the loss of our shipmate; our thoughts and prayers are with the Sailor’s family, friends and coworkers during this difficult time," the Navy said in a statement.

The Sailor's name will not be released until their next of kin have been notified.
