Senior Alert canceled after missing 72-year-old Hopewell man with cognitive impairment found safe

HOPEWELL, Va. - Virginia State Police have canceled the Senior Alert after a missing 72-year-old man from Hopewell has been found safe.

The alert was issued Friday afternoon on behalf of the Hopewell Police Department, which was looking for Robert Lee Smith. Smith was last seen at 209 S. 14th Avenue in Hopewell around 9:30 a.m. when he was reported missing.

Around 9 p.m. Friday, State Police announced the Senior Alert has been canceled and that Smith was safely located.

Officials said Smith suffers from a cognitive impairment, which posed a credible threat to his health and safety.
