HAMPTON ROADS, Va. - Sentara Healthcare has provided a few updates after helping test thousands and care for several people who have coronavirus.

Also to note, Sentara coronavirus drive-thru testing will be on a delayed schedule for March 25 due to rain.

Below lists a few updates regarding non-urgent surgery and procedures, supply donations, drive-thru screening locations and what to know before you leave your house.

Postponement of Some Non-Urgent Surgery and Procedures

Due to safety concerns surrounding COVID-19 and Sentara’s desire to limit the number of patients in hospitals and facilities, they are reviewing and postponing some non-urgent surgeries and procedures to assist with maximizing PPE supply and the community’s safety. If your upcoming surgery or procedure needs to be rescheduled, your physician and/or site of care will be in touch with you. Should a patient’s condition worsen, we encourage them to contact their provider.

Supply Donations

Sentara wants to thank community partners and residents who have graciously agreed to donate supplies. At this time, Sentara is only taking material supplies, not food donations.

Please visit this link to see a list of Sentara Hospitals and phone numbers where you can call to schedule a time between 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Monday - Friday for drop-off.

Sentara is working with several community organizations who have expressed the desire to help with additional masks. Sentara is now working with London Bridge Trading, a protective clothing company based in Virginia Beach, who has agreed to sew surgical masks using Cupron, Inc. materials. In order for these masks to have the needed antimicrobial properties, they have to be sewn to meet certain criteria and unique specifications which is why London Bridge Trading has been asked to help.

The hospitals are accepting hand-sewn masks to be used in conjunction with other personal protective equipment.
