Seriously injured woman rescued from Suffolk house fire

SUFFOLK, Va. - Crews responded to an afternoon house fire in the 1400 block of Wilroy Rd. Thursday around 2 p.m.

Officials said that they saw smoke coming from the home when they arrived at the scene.

Crews rescued a woman, and she was transported to an area hospital with critical injuries.

No other injuries were reported, and the fire was marked under control at 2:22 p.m.

Suffolk Police monitored traffic while Wilroy Rd. was closed, an the road reopened shortly before 3 p.m.

Later Thursday, he Suffolk Fire Marshal’s Office determined the cause of the fire to be carelessly discarded smoking material.
