Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department recovers vehicle submerged in water

SMITHFIELD, Va. - Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department responded to a vehicle reported in the water.

The department says a crew was dispatched to the 1500 block of Waterworks Road for a reported car into the water with unknown entrapment.

According to department officials, when crews arrived on scene the vehicle was completely submerged around 20 feet from the edge of the boat ramp.

Two swimmers entered the water and conducted a search and then assisted with the recovery of the vehicle. Nothing was found during the search, according to officials.

Officials requested two wreckers from Dave’s Service Center to assist with the recovery effort. Units on scene included Rescue 50, Tower 50, Brush 50, and Zodiac 50
