NORFOLK, Va. - State Police investigate a fatal motorcycle crash that took place on I-64.
Police say the crash occurred around 3:48 p.m. in the westbound lanes of Interstate 64, east of Military Highway. According to preliminary investigations, the driver of a 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse was driving in the middle lane and attempted to switch lanes when the vehicle was struck from behind by a 2016 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle.
Police say 26-year-old Michael Maurice Sanford, of Washington, was ejected from the motorcycle and struck the guard rail, killing him instantly. According to witness statements, speed played a contributing factor.
Troopers are currently still investigating the incident. Police say no charges have been placed at this time.
