NORFOLK, Va. - Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal single vehicle crash.
The crash occurred on Wednesday around 7 a.m., at the intersection of I-464 and Main Street in Norfolk, according to State Police.
59-year-old Jerry L. Benton was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu, traveling southbound on I-464 , when he lost control, ran off the roadway and drove down the median into the overpass on Main Street, according to police investigation along with witness testimony.
Benton was taken to Norfolk Sentara Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police say.
Police say Benton was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash and the cause of death is unknown.
State Police are still investigating.
