NORFOLK, Va. - State Troopers are investigating after a vehicle hit and killed a pedestrian on Tuesday.
Reports say the crash took place around 9:12 a.m., on I-64 in the westbound lanes of Evans Street, east of Executive Drive.
Police say the driver of a 2004 Subaru, Erick Duane Kaba, was traveling eastbound on I-64, when he lost control, went off the roadway, and drove through the median into the westbound lanes.
According to officials, Kaba overcorrected back into the median and struck an embankment, causing the vehicle to go airborne.
While the vehicle was airborne, it hit 23-year-old James C. Steinhauser, Jr., who was standing on Evans Street.
Steinhauser died upon impact, according to officials.
The driver was taken to Norfolk Sentara Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The driver was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, and police say alcohol was not a contributing factor.
According to officials, the case will be brought before the Norfolk Commonwealth Attorney's Office for review and determination of charges.
