Suffolk Firefighters respond to house fire

SUFFOLK, Va. - Suffolk Fire & Rescue crews responded to a house fire Sunday evening.

Crews are currently on scene of a fire in the 5500 block of Whaleyville Boulevard.

Officials received a call at 5:43 p.m. regarding the fire and the first unit arrived on scene in the rural Whaleyville borough at 5:49 p.m.

Officials say no residents were home at the time of the firefighters arrival.

The fire was contained to one room of the residence, however, officials say there was smoke damage throughout the home.

At this time it is unknown how many may be displaced, however there were no injuries reported.

The Fire Marshal’s Office will be investigating the cause of the fire.

Suffolk Police are continuing to direct traffic in the area.
