POQUOSON, Va. - A fire rips through a local restaurant, causing it to close down for months.

Photojournalist Roy Rushing shows the doors are officially back open at Surf Rider in Poquoson.

"That was a hard day for all of us. Especially our staff, we're a real family based company and even as we grow we are still family owned and operated," General Manager, Brandi Timmons says. "So, it was like losing family. Like losing our house pretty much."

Several customers supported the restaurant's reopening, excited to have their favorite place to eat back.

"Where am I going to eat, this is the best place in the world," a regular customer expresses.

Surf Riders closed June 12, 2019 after the restaurant was engulfed by flames.

"We're excited, we're pumped and ready. We've been waiting eight months to do it, so we are excited," Timmons says.
