Subject detained after man injured in shooting near Virginia Wesleyan University

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - One person was detained after a shooting near Virginia Wesleyan University Thursday morning.

According to the Virginia Beach Police Department, dispatch received a call at 10:08 a.m. for a gunshot wound in the 5600 block of Campus Drive.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital with what is believed to be a non-life threatening injury.

Police said there is no threat to the public.

30-year-old Sydnesia Lynn Diggs of Virginia Beach was arrested and charged with aggravated malicious wounding and use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

The case remains under investigation by the department's Homicide Unit.
