Suspect in custody after fatal shooting inside Norfolk residence

NORFOLK, Va.- Detectives have identified the man who was killed in last weekend's shooting on Vimy Ridge Avenue.

Around 10:15 p.m. on July 11, police responded to the 2900 block of Vimy Ridge Avenue for the report of a gunshot victim. When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from life-threatening gunshot wound.

The man, 38-year-old Garnet Williams, was pronounced dead on scene.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a resident shot Williams after he allegedly attacked the resident.

This incident has been submitted to the Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney's Office.
