Suspect in custody following shooting that left man seriously injured in Virginia Beach

​VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - A suspect is in custody following a shooting that happened in the 900 block of Maximus Square Friday afternoon, according to the Virginia Beach Police Department.

At approximately 4:15pm, Emergency Communications received a report that someone had been shot in the 900 block of Maximus Square.

When officers arrived, they learned that there had been an altercation between parties known to each other in the 900 block of Maximus Square. The altercation escalated, and the suspect produced a handgun, firing at the victim.

The adult male victim was struck, then drove to a nearby 7-Eleven on Chinquapin Lane to seek assistance.

Responding officers located the victim and provided first aid until EMS arrived. The victim was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The adult male suspect, identified as 43-year-old Patrick Fontaine Creath Jr., stayed on the scene of the incident and was taken into custody without incident. He was charged with Felonious Assault and Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony
