PORTSMOUTH, Va. — A man who had initally been named as a person of interest in a deadly shooting in Portsmouth last month is now wanted for first-degree murder.
Portsmouth Police said they're looking for Avery Peoples, 29. He's wanted on a number of other charges, including aggravated malicious wounding, malicious shooting, use of firearms, missile into an occupied building and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The charges stem from a shooting early in the morning of Sept. 25.
Officers responded to the 10th block of Carver Circle to find two men with life-threatening injuries. One of the victims, 41-year-old Lamont Brown, died from his injuries.
Initially, police named Peoples as a person of interest.
