NORTHAMPTON Co., Va. - Two teens are in a local hospital after they were seriously injured when their vehicle ran off the road Friday morning.
Around 10:07 a.m., Virginia State Police were called to investigate a single-vehicle crash on Cherrydale Drive between Perdue Road and Seaside Road in Northampton County.
A preliminary investigation reveals that the driver of a 2008 Ford Explorer, a 16-year-old from Exmore, was driving eastbound on Cherrydale Drive at high speed when the teen lost control of the vehicle, which ran off the road and hit an embankment.
Officials say neither the driver nor his passenger, a 16-year-old boy from Cape Charles, were wearing their seat belts. Both teens were flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital to be treated for their injuries, which are said to be serious.
At this time, State Police do not know if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
