HAMPTON ROADS, Va. - Starting Tuesday, if you go in and shop at The Fresh Market – you are now required to wear a face mask.

To help keep the community safe during this time, organizers of The Fresh Market say not only are they requiring their employees to wear a face mask, but every customer who walks through the doors is required to wear one as well.

In a statement sent to News 3, leaders of the grocery store chain say, “The Fresh Market continues to place the safety of their team members and guests as the top priority, following all public health guidance."

It is estimated that one in four people with coronavirus do not show symptoms of the illness, but can still spread it to others. Because of this, several cities across the country are now requiring that the public wear face coverings when in grocery stores, pharmacies and convenience stores.

Employees also say they are still enforcing social distancing in the store as well. They are asking customers to stand six feet a part from each other or two shopping carts away from each other.

The new rule is that everyone must wear a face mask but if you don’t have one, there are some easy steps to make one at home that doesn't involve a sewing machine.
