Total coronavirus cases in Virginia pass 50K, 12 new deaths reported

The Virginia Department of Health released their daily updated numbers involving coronavirus cases within the state.

According to their website, there are now 50,681 total cases, 48,349 of which are confirmed and 2,332 are probable. There are 1,472 total coronavirus related deaths, with 1,369 being confirmed and 103 being probable. The case numbers are up by 1,284, and deaths are up by 12 since Saturday.

Sunday's daily case increase is the highest since May 26, when 1,615 cases of coronavirus were reported.

A total of 377,484 people in Virginia have now been tested.

The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association also updated their numbers. As of Sunday, there are 801 people currently being hospitalized for coronavirus. There are 385 people currently receiving inpatient hospital care whose test results are pending. 316 confirmed positive patients, and those whose test results are pending, are currently hospitalized in the ICU.

165 hospital patients, both confirmed for coronavirus, and those with test results pending, are currently on a ventilator. 588 ventilators are being used in hospitals out of the 2,965 in the state - that's 20% usage.

6,538 patients who have been hospitalized for coronavirus have been discharged.

  • Accomack 983 cases, 55 hospitalized, 13 deaths
  • Northampton 255 cases, 32 hospitalized, 26 deaths
  • Hampton 226 cases, 33 hospitalized, 4 deaths
  • Norfolk 583 cases, 71 hospitalized, 7 deaths
  • James City County 216 cases, 54 hospitalized, 15 deaths
  • Newport News 320 cases, 41 hospitalized, 10 deaths
  • Poquoson 9 cases, 2 hospitalized, 0 deaths
  • Williamsburg 46 cases, 11 hospitalized, 5 deaths
  • York County 86 cases, 10 hospitalized, 3 deaths
  • Portsmouth 343 cases, 48 hospitalized, 11 deaths
  • Gloucester 32 cases, 8 hospitalized, 1 death
  • Virginia Beach 801 cases, 102 hospitalized, 25 deaths
  • Franklin City 42 cases, 3 hospitalized, 2 deaths
