Eastbound lanes of I-64 reopen after tractor trailer crash, possible hazmat spill in James City Co.

JAMES CITY Co., Va. - The Virginia State Police is investigating a single-vehicle tractor-trailer crash that has all eastbound lanes blocked on I-64.

According to police, the crash occurred at approximately 4:48 p.m. on Interstate 64 at the 234 mile marker. Preliminary investigations reveal that the driver of a tractor-trailer ran off the roadway and struck the jersey wall, causing the driver to lose control and overturn.

The driver was taken to Riverside Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He has been identified as 63-year-old Raymond Thomas Etheridge of Newport News.

Etheridge was charged with reckless driving in connection with this incident.

The roadway was closed due to a possible hazmat spill, but all eastbound lanes reopened at 9:32 p.m.
