PORTSMOUTH, Va. - Trash inside a shredder caused a fire at a business located at 2 Victory Boulevard Wednesday afternoon.

Around 3:38 p.m., crews with Portsmouth Fire Rescue and Emergency Services were dispatched to the business.

When crews units arrived on scene, they found smoke coming from the roof of a multi-story, trash processing facility.

Firefighters found that trash inside a shredder had caught fire.

Units, along with Navy Engine 21 from Norfolk Naval Shipyard, were able to contain and extinguish the flames in a little more than an hour.

No firefighters or employees of the business were hurt during this incident.

The cause of the fire is unknown, and the investigation remains ongoing.
