Tropical Smoothie Cafe will donate 100,000 smoothies nationwide to local health care workers and first responders, the company said in a Friday statement.
The smoothies are meant to show appreciation for those on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic.
"In cafes across the country, the Tropical Smoothie Cafe family is working tirelessly to support our local communities, which are currently facing unprecedented hardship," said Charles Watson, CEO of Tropical Smoothie Cafe, LLC. "Our safety is dependent upon the selfless, hard work of our local healthcare workers and first responders and we want to help them in any way we can.
"The 100K smoothie giveaway is a simple, but impactful example of one way we can show our gratitude and bring a smile to their face – one sip at a time," he said.
News 3 spoke with Jen Moore, one of the franchise owners, for a couple of stores here in Hampton Roads. She said on Tuesday the goal is for each individual store to give one hundred smoothies on their own.
Moore said her stores at Princess Anne Road and Greenbrier Market Center have almost reached that goal and it’s something she said she will continue to do even after the goal has been reached.
“One store, I’ve reached my hundred. I’m getting close to that at my other store but then I’m going to continue with the ICU and the respiratory center at Princess Anne probably once a week,” she said.
