SUFFOLK, Va. - Suffolk Police and Suffolk Fire & Rescue are investigating a crash involving a horse and buggy that took place Saturday evening.

According to officials, a call came in at 7:34 p.m. after a horse that was attached to a buggy, ran into the roadway after being spooked by fireworks.

The buggy was then struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Kings Highway and Nansemond Parkway, officials say.

The driver of the vehicle, as well as an individual that was tending to the horse and buggy when the horse was spooked, were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Police say the horse will be evaluated by a veterinarian, however no serious injuries were observed at the scene. Officials say both the vehicle and buggy sustained heavy damage from the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
