PORTSMOUTH, Va. - Two people were seriously hurt after a crash on the West Norfolk Bridge early Friday evening.
Crews with Portsmouth Fire Rescue and Emergency Services responded to the two-vehicle crash on 164 eastbound at 6:08 p.m., arriving on scene to find both vehicles in flames.
Bystanders rescued the two victims from the vehicles, and medics took both patients to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
After the fire was put out, the scene was turned over to Portsmouth Police to investigate the crash. VDOT also responded to assess damage to the bridge.
As of 7:10 p.m., all westbound lanes have reopened. The eastbound lanes of the bridge are still blocked, with traffic diverting at the West Norfolk Road exit.
