NORFOLK, Va. - Someone tried to drive onto Naval Station Norfolk in a stolen car Tuesday morning.
A spokesperson for the base confirmed to News 3 that at approximately 10 a.m., an unauthorized person tried to access the naval station via Gate 5.
Police confirmed Wednesday morning, that 36-year-old Paul Michael Gardner was arrested and charged with grand larceny in connection to incident.
While trying to enter, gate sentries deployed the Harden Access Control System (HACS), and the vehicle was stopped.
Officials determined that the vehicle was stolen, and Installation Security apprehended Gardner.
Gardner is currently in custody at Virginia Beach City Jail.
