LONDON - The U.S. ambassador to Britain has confirmed that an American was among the three victims killed in a summer-evening attack in the English town of Reading that is being treated as a terror attack.

Ambassador Woody Johnson confirmed the death but did not name the victim. Johnson says he offered his “deepest condolences to the families of those killed in the attack on June 20.

Police say a 25-year-old man who is believed to be the lone attacker was in custody, but officials said the motive for the carnage was unclear.

Three people were killed and three others seriously wounded in the stabbing attack Saturday in Forbury Gardens park in Reading, a town west of London.
